Should blogs be included in Google News? That's not an easy question to answer with a simple yes or no. The content of any given blog will likely have a huge bearing on your opinion, right?

Building on yesterday's post on network neutrality / prioritized bandwidth, here are a five things bugging me about the business models proposed by telecommunications companies:
January 29, 2006
Under this scenario, a company like Yahoo could pay for prioritized bandwidth, causing their site's content to be delivered faster than Google's. Communications companies, including AT&T, Verizon, and BellSouth see prioritized bandwidth as a way to generate new revenue from content providers. This is a hot issue deserving attention from internet users because congress is updating the 1996 Telecommunications Act this year.

Yesterday's post on Technorati Optimization has fueled some stinging commentary from a few sites:
January 26, 2006
Anyone who has a blog and is familiar with Technorati is probably very aware of their blog's ranking on the popular blog search engine. If you're not careful, watching a blog's ranking fluctuate may lead to carpal tunnel from clicking the refresh button. Every blogger obsesses about this at some level, including respected bloggers like Steve Rubel, Frank Gruber and blogging newbie, Guy Kawasaki.

Firefox is one heck of a nice web browser, but Firefox with a few key extensions blows plain old Firefox out of the water. If you're not familiar with Firefox extensions, they're add-ons to the browser that increase the functionality. They can be anything from toolbars for blogging, to shorcuts for commonly used web resources like TinyURL.

Occasionally, friends of mine ask me if they should consider buying lots and lots of domain names as a marketing strategy to drive more traffic to their web sites. They theorize that many domains names will cast a wider net on the web for prospective site visitors. Is this an effective online marketing strategy? In most cases, no.

Google's Gmail program offers a lot of storage. So much storage, in fact, that they assumed you'd never delete anything. So sure were they of this, they hid the delete button in a drop down menu, forcing you to work way to click twice to delete a message:

Ebay is a great place to find deals, but it's important to remember that what you've really won the right to pay more than anyone else for the auction. And this is not always a good deal.

Google's paid video service drew the most press at CES last week, but what's the deal with Google Pack? Didn't hear about that one? That's because it received little to no press.

Given that you are currently reading a blog covering technology, it's probably safe to assume that you are a fairly technical person. You're probably the kind of person other people turn to for advice on technology purchases. Assuming that's the case, we have something in common, and I'd like some feedback from you on how you deal with one particularly vexing form of technical advice: recommending computers for parents.

A funny thing happened while checking this site's web stats from New York's JFK airport using my Sprint PCS Connection Card. I discovered new referring source of traffic coming from a page on startribune.com. Minnesota's largest daily published an article titled "Web Search: Gadgets and Gizmos" that looks at four web sites that "gleefully provide details" and reactions to last week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Covering the CES show in HD taught us a lot about publishing HD content on the web, hauling a tripod through massive crowds, and how to capture good audio on a loud show floor. But it also taught us that we're human, when it managed to destroy the health of our on-camera talent / video editor.

I must admit I was a doubter. How could a PC based telephone conversation be as good as a land line?
Well, because I have a cousin in the UK and I wanted to make a call with minimum charges I decided to give Skype a try.
The Technology Evangelist team is at the McCarran airport after a long day of gathering as much last-day footage as possible at CES. We'll have more HD video content ready tomorrow. Here are a few highlights from today:
January 9, 2006
One of the big announcements at the 2006 International CES Show this week came at Larry Page's keynote where he announced that Google is now offering paid video content through their video service. This upgrade to Google Video allows people to rent or buy video content from major content providers, including the NBA, and more than 300 classic television shows from CBS. However, the press I've seen so far overvalues the role the CBS partnership will play in Google's long-term plans for their video service.
We are not going to have a video from Day 4 of the CES show ready tonight due to the draining effects of the show and travel.
