The Technology Evangelist crew has wrapped up shooting coverage from the CES Show floor today, and is now editing and rendering the footage. Here are a few highlights from today in old-fashioned text and images to wet your appetite. Our top three best interviews of the day will be available for download later tonight.
The Sony Reader eBook may actually be the first electronic book format to actually win a large audience. Rather than using LCD, which has an eye-straining flicker, the eBook uses a new ePaper technology that stamps an image to the screen. It also uses no power once the image is displayed, so the page displayed below could be left open on a table just like an open book. Approximately 80 books can be stored in the eBook, and can be extended further using a Sony Memory Stick or SD card. Text is resizable. The book reads Sony's proprietary eBook format, PDF files, and JPG images.
Boxing Robot - The world's first boxing robot was on the show floor, but didn't throw a punch. We would have loved going a round with this guy.
Sling Media - Tivo time-shifts the shows to a time that is convenient for you. But what if your problem is location rather than time? Slingbox allows you to watch your own television in real time from anywhere you can receive a high speed internet connection. Find out more in our HDTV video report on this amazing service.
Google announced two new products yesterday in a keynote speech by Larry Page. Google Pack offers a bundle of popular Google applications, including Picasa, Google Earth, and Google Toolbar, along with applications from third parties like Adobe Acrobat and Norton AntiVirus. This should be a easy way for new computer owners to get up to speed with applications they'll eventually get around to downloading. Google's video service now allows content creators to charge for the content they upload into the system. A few large content creators, including CBS, are kicking this off, but it's just as usable by individuals who create compelling content and would like to charge for downloads.
Dual Core TabNote -
Toshiba is taking TabNote performance to a new level with their soon to be released dual-core TabNote. The TabNote has up to either hours of battery life when running on two batteries.
Electric-Spin's Golf Launchpad drew a large crowd. People took turns embarrassing themselves on holes at Pebble Beach. This allows you to use your own golf clubs to take on the top golf courses in the world from your living room. That is, if your living room has enough clearance to swing a club.
