CES Day 2: HD video, HD Distribution, and Wireless for all
The show keeps getting better and better. This is the second day of the 2006 Consumer Electronics show, and with it our second video update is now available. We have interesting conversations with Sanyo on their 720p handheld cameracorder, talk a bit about BluRay, and end with Wireless services for everyone via mobile WiMax.

If you're having issues playing the video, or if you're looking for minimum system requirements, please visit our Video Help page.

critic back in the house...
the second video was better in editing, some parts of the first video dragged a little too long
i would love to see more of the gadgets at CES closeup, i.e. the huge transparent screen during one of the interviews, the 103" plasma, etc.

Torrent is up for whoever wants to download via Bittorrent. Check Demonoid.com,Mininova or Piratebay.

I'm working on adding the Torrents to the page now. Thank you VERY much for your help on that, it allows us to worry about the videos rather than the distribution (which is just as important).
1080p camcorders, YEAH BABY! But until then... The Xacti probably does not do MPEG 4 VBR on the fly. While it is using an earlier version of the spec that's much easier on the processor, it's just hard for a camera to look at the content in real time and re-allocate bandwidth (hard, not impossible).
Right now WiBro is only South Korea, but it's basically mobile WiMax rebranded. Samsung is ready to deploy state side, but they are waiting for the ever slow moving FCC. It is distance based, so the further out you get, the slower it becomes. I don't know about upload speeds, but that is a pretty large variable than can be affected by a lot of things.
And the videos for today will hopefully be even better. I have my wireless mic back (we had a new one brough in from Minneapolis), we have a new lighting system we are going to try (it may not work, we're trying to be creative here, and this also came in from Minneapolis), and we have more time for b-roll. Should be good.

Ben, Ed and Team, you guys are amazing!.....the new "Video iPod feed" button will innovate media as we know it, I clicked on it, and it auto-opened the iTunes application, then iTunes auto downloaded the content onto my notebook, from here I watched it on my notebook and later I will transfer it to my Video iPod......WOW! The irony is most people will wait to get HD on Blue Ray disks, by driving to a store, we are delivering HD and iPod video NOW!!!! Distributed through the web, using iTunes as one of our key distribution channels. Thanks Steve Jobs!...Guys, I know you all are tired, but keep up the great work. You are making history......Ro

Are you still going to be supplying 720p feeds? I am already to d/l and help distribute via Bittorrent.
Thanks for all the great work,
Tom

why cant u click on 720 and 1080p, it grey

720p and 1080p feeds take a LOT longer to post. Compression time is dramatically more and the upload time is pretty nasty too. We crunch them as fast as possible and upload as fast as possible too, but it just takes time. That being said, these feeds are now online and viewable by all.
If you see an icon that's grey, that means that feed is not yet available. Patience young Jedi, we won't leave you hanging.

Woaw that's awesome!! Thanks alot for providing longer video than yesterday!
When I use my calculator for the Xacti 720p Mpeg4 camera, it shows 21 minutes per GB to be a bitrate of 6349kbit/s.. That is really cool bitrate for 720p content. It depends if the device can record the 720p Mpeg4 in somekind of variable bitrate, but if it is constant bitrate then the bitrate sounds great. This would be an easy way to creat web-ready HD content in my opinion. Just get an extra SD card, and each time one card is full, copy the content over to a portable harddrive PMP with SD card reader. Then it would be nice there was a PMP that supports at least 720p Mpeg4 also, so that the video can be previewed on the pmp. This saves the lot of time that is needed to capture and encode video from a Sony HDV camera.. Until 1080p harddrive based (2,5" 100gb) Mpeg4 or h264 camcorders exist, then I think this HD camera is a cool and usefull item.
Nice to hear an official talking about BD vs. HDDVD, and very very nice to see some WiBro stuff!! I wonder if WiBro is only for South Korea, or that is the kind of WiMax that will be adopted all over the world. wireless 30mbit/s with normal cell phone range sounds awesome. I wonder how much the upload is, if long peer-to-peer transfers would work without problem, and when this will be available.
