It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that everyone uses the web differently. Yet we all use one of only a handful of popular browsers to surf the web. Over time people find ways to customize their browsing experience from small changes like adding bookmarks and favorites, bookmarklets, and custom toolbars. FireFox users can take things a step further by installing appropriate Extensions to add additional browser functionality, customizing their web browsing experience. However, we're still falling far short of offering specialized web browsers for pre-defined user groups.
Why does it have to be so hard to create a truly awesome FireFox browser? Why do people have to stumble across interesting FireFox extensions mentioned by bloggers, or sift through the zillions of extensions listed on Mozilla's site? Instead, we should have specialized FireFox browsers pre-loaded with appropriate extension packs to get users up to speed with a great browser faster.
I see a market for FireFox Extensions bundles based around different user behaviors:
1. Blogging
2. Photo Junkies
3. News Junkies
4. Social Networking Junkies
5. Music Junkies
6. Journalists
7. Security Junkies
8. Web Developers
9. Sports Junkies
10. Entertainment Junkies
Users should be able to self-identify themselves to one or more of the above profile types, then download custom version of FireFox with appropriate extensions pre-installed. Or during setup, users should be able to self-identify and install an appropriate extensions profile at that time.
When will something like this be available? How will it be done? Is there a way to create easy to download & install packages of must-have extensions today?
