Better Know a Content Source - YouTube
Ed Kohler
This is the first in a 435-part series (give or take) on sources of syndicatable content for websites. Sites covered in this series offer tools to publish content from their site onto your own site. The number of sites offering syndicatable content grows every day, so I have no idea how long this series will last. Maybe it will end up in eternal syndication like Saved by the Bell?

YouTube

YouTube.com is a popular video-sharing site with content ranging from kids lip syncing to their favorite songs to PowerPoint presentations given by Google co-founder, Larry Page.

Videos can be linked to, like I did above, or embedded in your site's content by pasting a few lines of code from the relevant video. Here's an example tutorial created by Rustybrick explaining how to use SEOBook's new search engine optimization FireFox Extension:

Embedding the video rather than linking to it allows publishers to keep visitors on their site rather than bouncing out to YouTube. However, users clicking the video outside of the circle containing the play button will still end up bouncing over to YouTube for the content rather than playing it on your site.

YouTube also offers a Blog This feature, allowing bloggers to post directly from YouTube to their blogs. Currently, only LiveJournal and Blogger blogging platforms are supported. There is also an API, but that's a story fom another series.

Steven Colbert's first edition of Better Know a District starts at 14:00 here.
