Goodbye Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin
Elizabeth Chesen
?¢‚Ǩ?ìAustralia?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Son Steve Irwin Killed in Freak Accident?¢‚Ǩ¬ù was the tragic headline I woke up to this morning. As everyone across the globe now knows due to the power of the Web, Steve died after being stung by a stingray off Australia?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s north coast while shooting some footage for a new children?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s TV show he was doing with his daughter.

statement_175.jpg

Although this site is dedicated to technology evangelism, I felt the need to write a tribute post today in the Crocodile Hunter?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s memory. Steve?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s evangelism for Australia, all critters great and small, the environment and his family was an inspiration to so many. He died at 44 years young doing what he loved most?¢‚Ǩ¬¶

I have had the fortune to travel to this great country twice and even went snorkeling

in the same area off of Port Douglas

on a stretch of the Great Barrier Reef

where this terrible accident occurred.

Steve?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s passion for conservation was infectious. He had a unique way of using the medium of television to share his story and he could make those of us watching feel as if we knew him. It still amazes me how the Web moved the news of Steve?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s untimely death around the globe nearly instantaneous ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú all of the known details have already been added to Wikipedia. News spread so quickly, in fact, that many of the sites related to him have gone down due to traffic overload.

Steve, we will miss you. Our hearts go out to your family, friends, colleagues and the wildlife you cared about so passionately. Steve would often say at the passing of a life ?¢‚Ǩ?ìIt?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Nature?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Way?¢‚Ǩ¬¶?¢‚Ǩ¬ù these words bring some comfort. I hope his untimely death inspires others to continue his important work.

Steve's passion and tireless enthusiasm has inspired many of us in the world of conservation. As a teacher and a life-long reptile enthusiast, I for one will continue his mission. He will be missed and my warmest wishes go out to his family, friends, and the staff of Austrailia Zoo.

The world,
I am sad today, and will be tomorrow. Losing Steve Irwin, "The Crocodile Hunter," some hours ago shook me hard and I have yet to recover. He has been one of my favorite personalities (along with his wife, Terri) for quite a few years. Such a freakish thing to happen to such a wonderful human being. I feel so much heartache for Terri and their two children, Bindi Sue and Robert and everyone who knew him or wish they did. You might be feeling sad, too. It's hard to lose such an icon who was a bigger than life role model for enthusiasm, joy and pure passion. Although teetering on extreme's edge sometimes, he cared so much for all animals (including we human animals) and loved doing what he did; I loved him for that.

Our world as we know it, and Animal Planet will never be the same. My prayers go out to all those whose life was touched and forever changed by Steve Irwan, especially his loving wife, Terri and his children.
In celebration and remembrance of the "Crocodile Hunter's" life,
Linda Bergman-Althouse, North Carolina, USA

I pray comfort and peace be with the family and friends of Steve I. He will be sorely missed! BUT! There will be a resurrection and there will be no more death and tears...
Revelation 21:4?Ǭ†And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù 1 Corinthians 15:54-56 says, ". 54?Ǭ†But when [this which is corruptible puts on incorruption and] this which is mortal puts on immortality, then the saying will take place that is written: ?¢‚Ǩ?ìDeath is swallowed up forever.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù 55?Ǭ†?¢‚Ǩ?ìDeath, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting??¢‚Ǩ¬ù 56?Ǭ†The sting producing death is sin, but the power for sin is the Law. 57?Ǭ†But thanks to God, for he gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!" ~~Death is not forever, neither will be the outcry nor pain. Please remember this and remeber also that Jehovah God will be there for you all if you let him.
I feel deeply saddened and moved in heart for you all.

I feel so bad for his wife and two kids, what a great father and husband he was. HE was truly a gift taken way too soon. R.I.P Steve Irwin......

i am from morocco, i just wanna say that i'm a huge fan of the best croc hunter ever; such a courageous man, such an energetic person, full of enthusiasm...
i wanna wish him a huge heaven full of crocs and snakes to have fun forever; goodbye Steve; i will miss you my friend

12. Posted by: casey burridge on September 5, 2006 5:51 AM:

all though i am 16 and i arent all that into snakes n alot of wildlife now....stve used 2 be my idol. i can remember being invited 2 a dressup party n had 2 go as something starting with the first letter of my name so i thought y not go as crocodile hunter n my sister was going to go as terri. and also due to my passion for steve irwins tv series i once picked up a baby brown snake thinking it was a cool thing to do and then later on realised that it was alive and crawling up my arm. steve was a great aussie icon and a well known character for australians to look up to. i had once been to the australian zoo and i was so excited to meet him but unfoprtunatly that day he wasnt there due 2 publicity reasons. my sympathy goes out to terry bindy and little bob as they have lost a husband and father that will never be able to see his young children grow up. we know that steve is looking down on us and if the zoo keeps on running the way that he run it he will be looking donw saying crikey look at the great job everyone has done.

13. Posted by: Sarah on September 5, 2006 5:31 PM:

My Toughts: Steve's passion for conservation is unending and will continue through the many people who's lives he touched. I am still in shock, to me it feels like a dream. I can't imagine what Terri might be going through. I want her to know that there are so many people thinking about her and her family. For me he has enhanced my love for animals and the environment and I just can't believe he is gone. Watching him since the third grade('92-'93) I feel as if he and Terri are a part of my life even though the Irwin's live half a world away. I think of Bob, Bindi and Terri and in a way they are so lucky because they were able to know him, but on that same note it wasn't long enough. To All: Let the memory of Steve live on so he can continue to make this world a better place. To Bob and Bindi: Your Father was a great man and did many wonderful things for you and this world. He loves you very much. To Terri: Be strong for Bob, Bindi and Steve, as you know best what he would want for you, your family, the Zoo, and the world. Remember the good times.
-With deepest thoughts and simpathy to all family and friends-

***From a bulletin I posted on MySpace***

Hi Everybody,

I don't know about U all, but I frickin loved The Crocodile Hunter. Steve was always so upbeat and you could tell that he really enjoyed his job. I could still remember watching his show for the first time - it brought a smile to my face as I was captured by his interesting bouts with various reptiles and a multitude of critters found roaming the Outback and beyond. Steve loved and cared for every single creature he brought to our living rooms via television. He had a passion for what he did that was reflected in each and every episode of his shows. Needless 2 say - I was hooked and eagerly awaited the next episode of his show much like a kid awaits their favorite Saturday morning cartoon (which I also still do...). He never let me down. Sadly, I drifted as my course work became heavier and consequently missed out on many of his wild and zany, yet educational/informative antics. But whenever I got a break and could catch it on TV, I would be right here in my room watching it with eyes open wide. The very fact that I took the time to type this out should show you how much I will miss this guy. I am very deeply saddened and just feel awful about the whole thing. The news of his death reached me on my birthday which was this past Labor Day; some gift. He left behind his wife Terri and two beautiful children and I just can not imagine how they must feel at this moment. My heart goes out to them, his family, and friends. May Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter, live on in our memories for years to come.

We love you Steve,
-Patrick *tear*

Crikey Mate you were a legend.
Never have I known anyone so enthusiastic and dedicated to a cause. An almost childlike wonderment and infectious love of all things and an example to us all, If only everybody thought like you the world would be a great place to live. Sadly missed by everyone. Even if you didn't know him he seemed like your best friend.
GodBless Steve-o, R.I.P. Mate

I was a fan of Steve Irwin. I am 50 years old and some of the best times my son and I had was watching the Crocodile Hunter on T.V. Mother Earth has lost a favorite son and the world has lost a valuable conservationist of Wild-Life.

My prayers are with his loving wife, Terry, their beautiful daughter Bindy and handsome son Bob.

He will always remain in our hearts.

I am so sad for the Irwin family. I have prayed for you and will continue to do so. Watching Steve and Terri on their T.V. shows over the years has made me feel as if I knew them on a personal level. When I heard the news it was as if I had lost a close friend. Most of all I grieve for the children. In my heart I feel that he was such a kind and great spirit that our Heavenly Father has a job that only he could fill. I pray that all of those that grieve Steve's lose will be conforted to know that he is in a better place with love all around him.

Hello,
My name is Samantha and I am only 11 years old. I've been watching the Croc Hunter all my life and was amazed by the animals and Steve. In my household he will be truly missed. When I was little I always wanted to do the things he would do with animals. I was shocked when I heard of his death, but something was bound to happen with all the dangerous animals he's handled. He has tounched many lives with his great acts and his great thick accent. He was a true Aussie at heart. We love you Steve. Rest In Peace with the Crocs to be handled in heaven.

The untimely passing of Steve Irwin is a great tragedy. This has effected my family more than I could have imagined; he has been a great influence on myself and my two boys. The world will never be the same. In the past, I have dealt with this type of emotional pain through music. Being a song writer and composer, I have written musical compositions and songs to honour friends, family, and fallen heroes to ease the pain and commemorate the contributions they've made in life. Steve falls under the obvious catagory of "HERO." Please accept and share with the world this musical tribute in honour of the great "CROCODILE HUNTER" Steve Irwin.. WE LOVE YOU STEVE!!!!

What does this have to do with technology? It's sad that you are using his death to boost your google ranking. Stay on topic!

32. Posted by: Ed Kohler on October 13, 2006 10:12 PM:

Mike, it's not every day that someone comments on a 6-week old eulogy post to complain about things getting off topic. The initial post and the 30 comments before yours all appear to share a common theme: mourning the early passing of a great man.

33. Posted by: Jordan on October 25, 2006 9:01 PM:

I really am sorry. But sorry sounds so fake, and unreal, just a back-up answer, when you cant think of anything else. But I mean it.

My prayers are for Terri, Bindi, and Bob.

Terri: You had an awesome husband. He was loved by the world.

Bindi: Your father loved you more than anything, and he was a great man.

Bob: It's so sad that you were too young to really remember your father, but he was so good, and loved you so much.

WHY IS IT THAT THE GOOD DIE?

And Mike, about the google thing, that is so rude. Huh, please quit being a loser, even if it is online~!~
