Yahoo Adds Free Group Conference Calls to Messenger
An interesting move by Yahoo into free group conference calling:
Yahoo Messenger offers free group conference calls - Yahoo! News
"Yahoo Inc. is offering free group conference calling services from Vapps Inc. to the roughly 80 million users of Yahoo's instant-message and Web telephone-calling service, the companies said on Monday.
The service, called ConFreeCall, will be available for download through Yahoo Messenger with Voice service, allowing friends or families to hold free conference calls to complement Yahoo's existing text, voice and photo-sharing services."
Will a service requiring Yahoo Messenger AND a plug-in be able to have an impact in the group conference call market? I have my doubts due to the hurdles involved in running this application.
I already don't like Y! Messenger due to the overly aggressive install with a bundled toolbar, desktop and quicklaunch icons, and auto-install into my system tray as of the last time I tried it. This isn't something I could imagine putting on a boardroom desktop where I make most conference calls from.
