Google's
Dodgeball.com has finally launched a mobile version of their mobile networking site. I'm a big fan of the Dodgeball service, but have been frustrated with the lack of a mobile interface since day one since the basic interface is graphic intensive, making it a
poor site for mobile devices.
The new site, now live at
dodgeball.com/mobile removes most of the graphics and focuses on a few key tasks, such as looking up venues, reporting where your friends are, and checking in at venues. The venue finder works particularly well, providing a mobile optimized Google Map of the venue's location, venue tags, and links to additional nearby locations.
At this time, it doesn't allow for addition of new venues, which is lame because the venue information is often on restaurant menus, so adding the venue is an easy thing to do while waiting for an order. The mobile site also doesn't show check-in rankings for the past ten days like the non-mobile site does.
The check-in ranking has become one of the most talked about features on the site within my network of dodgeball friends. Providing mobile access to the rankings would cause me to show the Dodgeball site to more people when out on the town.

Hear, Hear! I whole heartedly agree. Part of the fun of Dodgeball is the friendly competition that arises when you see you are in the position to take the "first place" spot. Why Dodgeball, as a company, would not want their users to have the ability to USE their service to the utmost ability is beyond me.
