Mario: So, if you are looking for a new source that will provide you with
really what’s going on right now, then site that focus more Instant Journalism
are gonna give you that?
Speaker 1: PRWebpodcast.com visiting with newsmakers and industry experts.
Mario: This is Mario from PR Web and it is real pleasure to have with us Ed
Kohler. He is Executive Producer of Technology Evangelist. Ed, it’s a pleasure
to have you here podcasting with us today.
Ed Kohler: Well thank you Mario.
Mario: Give us some understanding about your company “Technology Evangelist”?
Ed Kohler: Okay, Technology Evangelist is news site, we focus on technology
news. We are based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We use a combination of high
definition video blogging, regular traditional blogging, photo blogging and
podcasting to bring together a new story. So, its kind of unique about what we
are doing is, we focus on Instant Journalism where we're at, something like
this week at the consumer electronic show (CES). We try to get a story out
fast by using whatever medium we possibly can and we are doing things to bring
our audience into the conversation itself, by allowing them to submit
questions to us that they'd like to have asked on the trade show floor. So,
it’s somewhat unique amongst technology news blogs.
Mario: You mentioned CES “The Consumer Electronic Show” in Las Vegas that is a
happening place, I understand, sure we heard about it in the news and that’s
the thing where all kinds of people are, all kinds of new things are in debut
and tell us little bit about that, give us feel for that?
Ed Kohler: The Consumer Electronic Show is that largest electronic trade
show in the United States, it’s absolutely massive. I believe there is a
140,000 people here, this week for the trade show. The trade show was designed
for manufacturers to able to show off their wears to retailers and the press.
So, it’s where deals are made. The trade show is not designed for consumers to
come and find out what the latest product is on the market. So instead,
they let reporters in like us to walk around, find out what’s going on and
leak out what’s going on, as for as the latest cell phones to be released, the
latest HDTV technology and its great place to be, there is so much to look at.
With 140,000 people here, you can imagine the size of the thing.
Mario: If your press release on PRWeb talks about something that, I think
should be really interesting lots of folks and talk about you debuting Instant
Journalism there, give us an idea what this means? And why it should be
important to us?
Ed Kohler: Here is an example of instant journalism. The first day of the show
they have a press night where we were at a special CES experience
meeting, where we were able to getup in close to some of the most innovative
stuff that’s going out on the show. At that particular night’s event we
happened to grab a photo of a new cell phone out from Samsung, that looks
little bit like an iPod. Its little bit thicker than iPod and has a little
pivot to it, so it opens up, so it’s larger, so you can actually talk on
the thing and has a little iPod, click wheel to navigate. We thought
its kind of slick little product. We snapped a photo of it, threw a couple of
sentences together describing what we thought of it and posted to the site
right there. So, actually while we were walking around the floor there the
post was transmitting from my pocket up to the website and next thing you
know, that particular post ended up on digg.com and was so popular that it
took our site down for a while. So, I think the reason that it probably did
that was because we were probably the first people to report on that story on
the entire internet. Instant journalism in that case worked out pretty well
for us.
Mario: Absolutely, absolutely and Ed tell us about, how people can take
advantage of that? What is it that, that you would go and
end-up, suggest to the listener, how this some kind of end up, be a
benefit individually that will meet with their business?
Ed Kohler: Instant journalism is not appropriate for all media and it’s not
appropriate for all stories. Where it works best is, when you just need to
show something to the people or just getting the word out, where you are not
really explaining, why something is great? But, you should explain there is
something exists. So, if you're the first person to grab a picture
of the 108 inch sharp LCD HDTV at the show, that’s gonna be news worthy, but
if you are there on the 4th day at the show that picture is no
longer news. So, if you are looking for a news source that will provide you
with really what’s going on right now, then sites that focus on instant
journalism are gonna give you that, but other people are going to
be more interested in a site that digests information for them and
give them a perspective, so we tried to do that as well, but it depends post
to post on what you are gonna get.
Mario: We are speaking to Ed Kohler, Executive Producer of Technology
Evangelist. Ed, give us some contact information, where we can learn little
more about what you are doing and be able to get some information for you
guys?
Ed Kohler: We are online at technologyevangelist.com and if you are looking
specifically for our CES coverage, go to technologyevangelist.com/ces.
Mario: Ed, its been a real pleasure podcasting with you today some great
information about what’s happening new in technology, instant journalism is
got lot of flow to it . I am hoping that you will be able to advance that and
lots of people will be using that, take advantage with it the future. Thanks a
lot Ed.
Ed Kohler: Thank you very much Mario.
