Amazon Developer Network Surpasses 220,000 Registerd Users
This is an amazing stat from today's Amazon's investor relations press release:
"Over 220,000 developers have registered to use Amazon Web Services, up greater than 55% year-over-year."
That's huge.
What are 220,000 developers developing? My guess is a HUGE number of those registered users are bloggers who are using Amazon's affiliate program to link to products on Amazon.com. For example, Wordpress has an easy to install and use plug-in that lets bloggers search Amazon's inventory from the own blog's admin, select a product, then insert the product into a blog post as a link or image in just a few clicks. If someone clicks through from that link and makes a purchase, Amazon pays the blogger a commission.
While this is very popular, and makes Amazon the default choice for product linking from blogs, I wouldn't exactly call the vast majority of bloggers developers. That just happens to be how Amazon describes them.
