ComVu PocketCaster Looks Interesting
I had a chance to grab lunch with a couple guys from ComVu today. Their company makes a live streaming application for cell phones. We're talking streaming video directly from your phone to the web in a matter of seconds.
The application optimizes the stream based on your upload speeds, then captures and ingests video into their network. From there, it can be streamed to your blog or published as a finished file to many popular blogging platforms. Here's a scoop: it's going to be available for publishing directly to YouTube very soon.
Now that phones with decent video cameras are on the market including the Nokia N93i we profiled back at the CES show in January, it's time for software solutions to push the camera and data connection to the limit (EVDO, WiFi, etc.).
This enables "instant journalism" by anyone with the software on their phone.
The software is currently free and will probably end up being sold through cell phone carriers as an add-on for a few bucks a month.
Stay tuned for an interview with ComVu's VP of Business Development, Scott Jamar. And find out more about how ComVu's being used on the PocketCasting Blog.

I have had the chance to use comvu for testing purposes after being attended by a tech guy from Nokia. It only took 5 minutes to register an account at Comvu.com and install the symbian-comvu software on my N93i. Aprox. 8 minutes later I was able to upload my first live stream to Comvu. I think that this is a very promising tool for journalists, especially citizen journalists and bloggers. I have some footage posted on my vox-blog were you can see the results of these live streamed video-footage.
You can find some here http://urbaneyeball.vox.com/library/post/aatskis-humors.html and here http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=aatski
Have fun watching and everyone should give comvu a try!
