Video on the Net - Danny Kastner, FanRocket
Ed Kohler

Do you remember Season 3 of The Apprentice? I was a HUGE fan of Season 1, a moderate fan of Season 2, and by Season 3, I was just barely hanging on. However, there was one character on Season 3 who made things interesting, and that was Danny Kastner. He was the guy on the book smarts team who carried around a guitar and tried to turn every situation into a singable moment.

As his Apprentice 3 bio mentions, he is a dot.com kinda guy, having run a company called POPstick back in the day. Now he's the CEO of FanRocket. What does FanRocket do? Watch the video to find out . . . I guess. If the video doesn't explain it, FanRocket creates web video based community websites for businesses such as televisions shows.

Kanster opened his pitch on why he should be the next Apprentice with the sentence, "Donald Trump is not looking for clones." He certainly wouldn't have gotten a clone out of Danny.

Full Transcript:

Danny Kastner: My name is Danny K. I am the CEO of Fan Rocket. I am here with my man Ed Kohler from Technology Evangelist. This is the coolest blog on the net for you we are looking for the ins and outs and the ways and plays of technology and such so Ed is here. We are going to talk about Fan Rocket that’s FanRocket.com, that’s a company they could embed social networking with user generated content with professional TV programming and one experience [Song]. Oh my god! Hey, where did you her, she is sexy. Ed so the whole idea here is we work with network such as NBC where this really cool show iystv.com that’s done with NBC and Carson Daily. You could go check it out, you could vote on videos, you can upload and you will win 1000 bucks for every contest. If you are done over 70 contests, it’s a really good time, so over here excuse me Fan Rocket here is the solution to check it out and we’ve the website and then I can’t see what I am doing I mean it to turn it this way so I can see what’s going on here we are taking control of Ed’s blog actually. We are going to zoom in here it’s almost, it’s upside down is a little radical and you could see it's your show or you can rate, you can interact with content ok we got here I could rate this guy. I can see who created the content we had the social networking in all social embedded right in the whole apparatus. I am Danny K fanrocket.com. Ed do you have questions.

Ed Kohler: Where, who is joining your site what sort of people? What sort of people are joining you Danny K?

Danny kastner: Well, our site is not really that consumer facing site Ed, our site is we license technology to companies like NBC or the CBS of the world, they leverage FanRocket technology and considering you're a technology evangelist do you know what I am talking about Ed, don’t you. Mom, I will be home tonight for dinner. So considering you would understand the stuff may be you should blog it to your users, so come over here, repeat after me Fan Rocket.

Ed Kohler: Fan Rocket.

Danny Kastner: Is the coolest technology here at the VON show.

Ed Kohler: This has been an interesting interview.

Danny Kastner: Yes. He won’t admit it but it is. It’s very cool. What else you want to know Ed.

Ed Kohler: So what’s the business model like who is putting money in your pocket?

Danny Kastner: Ok. So who puts money in your pocket is that the networks and the companies that leverage our technology the content owners that want to create their own channels online big networks. I can mention the NBC, I mentioned CBS. Companies like that, that are looking to nail it down home brother, the Fan Rocket solution just connect with their audience. Now it’s cool, which comes like BrightCove videoegg and feedroom offer really cool video solution, but we did something more than that. We embed social networking right in the video apparatus. So that is new technology, that’s web 3.0, not web 2.0. A count of 3 is twice as much as 2.

Ed Kohler: That’s probably yes. Where is your company based?

Danny Kastner: The company is based in Hollywood California naturally is Ham like me, but we are also at New York city and we’ve an office in Silicon valley up here. We are about 16 people, we are all over the US. We have different technologies, some of the best experts in the field that I went out and hired hand picked. I have been in this business for 13 years Ed, in the internet business my third start up and we are having a good time and I am glad we are here on TechnologyEvangelist [song] to really have a good time. There is nobody with more personality than my man Ed.

Ed Kohler: What did you do before you did this?

Danny kastner: I had a chemical popstick, and we did cool marketing for big companies like MicroSoft, Dell, IBM and such all across the United States of America. These United States [song], look if somebody is going to watch your show, we’ve to make it interesting, that’s what we are doing here Ed, sing with me for god’s sake. [song]

Since words do not describe the 'show' that Danny K put on, I've since had to show this clip to many other people.

The technology he is talking about is actually pretty cool, but 3 is not twice as much as 2. I don't know what the real effects are of having a chemical popstick, and when the dial on the 'intensity knob' goes to 10, pushing it to 13 doesn't mean the higher number is "better".

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.
