How Can I Create a Smart Podcast Playlist?
Here is what I'd like to do: Create a Smart Playlist in iTunes that will roll up all of my unplayed podcast downloads into a single playlist I can work my way through while running, biking, or driving.
Since my iPod doesn't offer a continuous play option for podcast tracks, I'm trying to figure out a way to trick it into behaving in a rational manner.
Here is what logically should work. Create a smart playlist selecting podcasts with a play count of zero:
However, it doesn't. I end up getting all podcasts - unplayed and played.
Ben suggested I make sure to check the "All Unplayed" option in on the sync interface. Done. No difference. It seems like my Smart Playlist is overriding this setting.
Any suggestions?

Here's what appears to have worked for me:
-New Smart Playlist
-Check "Match all of the following rules"
-Genre contains "Podcast"
-Play Count is "0"
-Check "Live Updating"
To test this, I played through a few Podcasts and all of them dropped from the Playlist (e.g. play count).
Cheers!

Try moving all your podcasts to a playlist: Ed's Podcasts. Then set up another playlist called "Never Played Podcasts." Set the parameters to read: Play count = 0; playlist = Ed's Podcasts. Then just move the "Never pLayed podcasts" over to your iPod.

I know I've been super annoyed by not being able to play my un-listened-to podcasts in a row, but I never took the next step to figure out how best to go about fixing that. Totally gonna try this today.

I'm using Lexy for this stuff see here . It's really easy, you create a playlist of podcasts and it only plays the new episodes for you. It's all web-based so I don't need to download anything. I also like that I could listen with my mobile when I'm on the bus on my way to work. I have an iPod but synch'ing it is such a pain.

Try Mediafly.com. The SyncClient integrates with iTunes as well as most other devices and does exactly what you want. (of course I'm biased... I work at Mediafly).
Here is the link to the SyncClient: www.mediafly.com/syncclient

once you created the playlist mention by Jeffrey Stene then select them all and mark them as not new. as soon as a new one is downloaded it will show up in the new playlist created.

By now you probably have figured this out, but here is a great link with the answer; http://www.tuaw.com/2008/02/01/how-to-create-a-smart-podcast-playlist-in-itunes/

You could try this script which converts a podcast (RSS) feed to a playlist on the fly.

I have a smart playlist with all my unplayed songs on my iPod. When I get home, I'll try to figure out how I did that.
