How to use LogMeIn on your iPhone
Benjamin J. Higginbotham
Our favorite suite of remote access products is supported on the iPhone, although a wee bit slowly.  If you're not familiar with LogMeIn's suite I would highly suggest checking out our introduction article.  If you're using LogMeIn and have an iPhone, well, you're in luck!  With a very simple change you'll be able to access any of your computers via your iPhone, although WiFi is highly suggested.

To enable a computer to work on an iPhone we'll  need to change how LogMeIn treats the remote session.  Log in to your account and open the computer you want to access.  I suggest doing this on a PC although it will work from an iPhone.  On the left side you'll see a section called Preferences.  Click on then then click on the 'Remote Control' preference option.

In the top section you'll find an option called 'Default Remote Control' and it's probably set to ActiveX.  Select 'HTML' and hit save.

You're done!  You'll be able to access your system remotely via your iPhone and control it by clicking around the page.  It's a wee bit slow but it does work, and hey, that's better than nothing.  What would be really nice is if LogMeIn looked at the browser type and auto-selected HTML for iPhone users.  That would allow for the faster access when at a Mac or PC with the slower HTML access when on an iPhone.

Does this work for Macs or just PC's?

4. Posted by: Benjamin Higginbotham on November 8, 2007 11:02 PM:

Taryn, not sue what you mean. The viewer works on both Macs and PCs as well as the iPhone using this hack. The server works on Macs and PCs but at this time not on Leopard. Actually, LogMeIn on Leopard isn't very pretty right now but they are working on it according to their blog.

does this not work with LogMeIn Free? I only see Mozilla, Java and ActiveX as my choices

Yes, i am having the same problem. It doesn't seem to work with LogMeIn Free. I also just upgraded to Leopard on my mac so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it but I cannot view my computer from my iPhone.

Hi

Can anybody tell me if it's possible to use Logmein to remotely show another person the Phone Screen itself rather than a computer screen?

Thanks a lot!

Works fine on my iPhone without changing any settings. I just tried it on the offchance and it worked.

However the reason I came to this thread is im trying to get it to work with dual monitors. Logmein works fine with multi monitors on other systems, PPC, and Windows, however on the iPhone I cant change to my second screen. :(

I wish they would release an iPhone app for log me in!!!!

15. Posted by: Carsten on September 21, 2008 3:08 PM:

It works fine only for the double click part. When you want to open a folder from your desktop or any other, you need to double click to open it, but the iphone just pans in and out. Any of you figured how to get that working?

16. Posted by: James on October 16, 2008 8:45 AM:

Worked fine for me!

Try using the onscreen keyboard that comes with windows to type (you can also use this for CTRL, ALT, DEL), as for double clicking I can't think of a way around it.

What about right clicking.. you cant :S
An app should be released for the iPhone 3G!!!

The iPhone has a built in VPN client. Just instantiate your VPN tunnel, then use VNC client. There are cheap Linksys routers that have a built in VPN server, or if you have OS X server or Windows Server. I just wish there was a terminal server client for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

LogMeIn will be releasing LogMeIn Ignition soon.

Not sure how it changes the LogMeIn experience on the iPhone.

You can apply to BETA test the app.

https://secure.logmein.com/ignitionpreview/

Very limited amount of BETA testers will be accepted.

Not sure when they are targeting release via the Apple App Store.
