EKEN H6S Ultra HD 4K Action Camera with Ambarella A12 chip 30M waterproof sport Cam Review
EKEN A8 4K ultra 4K Ready to Air~ EKEN A8 4K Ready to Air is the latest in the Garmin Ultra 4K Ultra 4K range, but unlike the A6 or A9 it doesn’t have a built-in battery. Instead, it has an adapter that plugs in through the socket of the phone. But unlike the A8 it doesn’t have any wall mount nor has any built-in charging hub. Instead it has an adapter that plugs in through the socket of the phone. It means that you’ll have to go through more hassle to get it to the right adapter. This new release adds another fun element to the range and may one day enable people who have an ultra camera or videographer to shoot 4K footage on the go.
It’s worth noting that this new version does not have the TWS adapter that is present in the A6 and A9. So if you’re planning on using it this is a worthwhile upgrade.
The EKEN A8 4K comes in two colours – Black and White.
Build and Handling
Garmin has used a common rectangular design with no logos on it. I’m a fan of the A8 design, but as the A8 has been designed for the 4K it’s just a regular phone button to power up your devices.
On the right side of the phone are the cameras. At the bottom of the phone is a small shutter button, which flashes a warning that the footage is being recorded.
On the left of the phone is the power button. This button flashes a red light which flashes blue or green depending on how much the battery is full and you’re recording.
The clip above shows what I mean. To give you an idea of how this footage looks like go to that clip.
The EKEN A8 4K has all the usual features, including video resolution options including 4K, and 4K video recording at 60fps.
Build and Handling
When you first get the camera out of the box, it’s a bit of a muddle. For a small camera, it’s very easy to set up. It’s very easy to hold. For 4K, the whole system is ready to go. However, if you’re on the smaller side of 5K, it’s even more of a hassle.
In the images below you’ll see what I mean. Firstly, you’ll see the difference between a 5K camera and a 1080p camera. The latter is much quicker and easier to take.
I think it’s down to the same type of thinking as I had earlier in the review. For 5K you’re looking at a small camera and then get the headline headline text. In 4K, you’re viewing the headline text on a 5.7K display. In the 480p resolution mode, it’s a bit of a hassle.
It’s a good thing that Garmin has a bigger battery of these two so that it’s still small enough to hold in hand.
In the A8 series, there’s an LCD screen at the top on the A7, A8 and A7R. This is the same screen found on the A9, A6 and A7S. It means you have a clear view of the screen.
