A few days ago, GBC released a new GPS drone called the GBC GlobalDrone GPS, which is also called the GMG’s DG-89. I’m a GPS enthusiast myself.
It has several features not found in the DJI drones, but the main one is GPS compatibility. GBC has been shooting videos in the form of aerial videos and GPS positioning systems for a couple of years now.
According to GBC’s website, the GPS module uses “Upright GPS” (Upright GPS stands for Unmanned Aerial Goggles) that allows it to fly at a top speed of 1,000 feet (or about 10m).
Although it has only a GPS, it is capable of record video at 18 fps. This footage can then be stored on a smartphone.
According to the company, the GPS module is also capable of “GLONASS” (360 / 3D space-based imagery can be stored in 360 photos or other 3D images).
To get the GPS’s GMG’s GPS module, follow these steps:
Step 1. Download and install the software (included). You will need to download and install the GMG package. Follow the link below for the latest firmware from here and here. (Need to install third-party software?)
Step 2. Download the downloaded firmware and install it.
Step 3. Open the downloaded firmware file in Adobe’s Photo Editor and insert it into the “CFG” folder. Here’s how you do it: load the file as an image format, plug in the GPS, activate the GLONASS module and then shoot a handheld video.

Step 6. Take the supplied photo and format it in your preferred video format, adding the following text:
Step 7. Paste it into the CFG folder and load the image as an image.

Step 10. Take off the printed piece and attach it to the other propellers of the gimbal.
Step 11. You can now tilt the camera to the right or left, depending on how you tilt the gimbal.
Step 12. Press the “Take-off” button and the drone is ready to fly.
After the first flight, you can quickly double-tap the “Take-off” button to take off. The drone’s battery will not automatically shut down and you’ll need to manually power it up.
Step 13. Take-off looks similar to the first flight. Both have a landing gear with a motorized arm.
Step 14. Take-off altitude is about 60 feet.
Step 15. Take-off altitude is about 25 feet.
