What is the Huawei DX700?

Huawei’s budget smartphone line-up has been steadily making the headlines. They’ve launched affordable smartphones in a number of categories.

The Huawei DX700 was the first device to feature the dual camera module of 2 Sony IMX318 + f/1.8 + and Sony IMX350.

The camera has proved extremely popular, but it hasn’t been without its faults.

It doesn’t offer the usual shooting modes, it just relies on autofocus.

This is still more than most budget smartphones. But the DX700 is probably not going to cut the legs off your trip to the top of the food chain.

Huawei’s DX700 doesn’t come without a few bling downs.

Firstly, you’ll get the usual usual smartphone-level connectivity, dual cameras and even a dual SIM phone.

Second, you get to start with Android. You can get on with installing the OS and waiting for it to be fully installed in the DX700.

The third and final update to the OS has made the camera a bit faster and more reliable. So what’s next for it?

Build Quality

When it comes to the design and appearance, one of the standout features for me was the build quality.

I don’t like the usual grey and yellow paint used for smartphones. But that’s not going to change with the DX700.

It’s robust, and it’s solidly built. The only issue I have with it is that it’s quite light and feels a bit heavier than a regular smartphone. It’s probably a result of my weight.

Performance

This device comes with a few things going for it.

First is the screen. It doesn’t feel as though you’re actually using the phone, but it is enough for what you’re doing.

This screen-on-a-s5 ratio is not bad, as it gives you a clear view of the screen and the screen-on-a-chip. It’s easy to switch off if you’re watching a video on the screen, but if you’re doing something other than browsing, social media etc then you’re better off keeping the screen on.

This screen is bright enough and has a natural blue tint, which is good.

Another thing to consider with the screen is that you’ll get about 5-7% of the display brightness at once, which is pretty good.

The phone is almost completely scratch- and waterproof.
